So how do your boots fit ? Do you need the big toe contact like I do ?

I am the odd one out here, I have one big toe longer and one big toe shorter. Well one is bent really. I broke it years ago, dropped a frozen turkey on it.........dont ask. But dont seem to have probs with boots but fancy shoes give me jip where the toe broke.

I don't seem to have problems accommodating my longer 2nd toes. Always have to keep my big toenail really short. I do try to ski with my toes relaxed though.

Many years ago, a bootfitter in Cardiff blew shell space for each toe in some new boots :D

I voted the wrong option anyway. So there is actually one more shorter vote than indicated

Thanks...I feel included now that I have been able to vote

PS I have edited my original post, as toe length information was incorrect. (I blame the Vodka!)

suprisingly common, about one in ten people have a longer second toe [or depending on the biomechanics a short first metatarsal which leads to the impression of a short big toe

as for boot fit , again it depends on the person, if you look at the toe box of "most" ski boots the longest point is around the middle second to third toe now if your feet are that way then it solves a load of fit problems however.... recently boot manufacturers hacve started to realise that not everyone has this long second toe/short first toe.... Atomic with the B tech and Lange with the new shark nose have squared the toe box witha bias to the medial side to accomodate the big toe

the biggest issue that i would like to see addressed with regard to fit in the toe box is the manufactuers go back to true sizing ie size 27.5 is 27.5cm +1.5cm for the liner + the toes...then when someoen measured a 27.5 they could be fitted in the boot size that they measure rather thn having to down size to get a realistic fit...people find it acceptable to wear the size they measure or a size up if it is just too tight but trying to explain why we need to down size is a real issue.... the reason it happened and they moved from this was they were loosing sales by people trying their percived size on and feeling it too tight...so the boot companies increased the toe box length to make it feel better

Both of my big toes were longer until 4 years ago in a martial arts competition when I got kicked on the tip of my left big toe. Now, after being "reset" by the doc, it is 5mm shorter, twisted around so that my nail is at about 30 degrees to the right and at a funny angle.

Thanks for the reply cem. It is very useful to know that toe box shape is yet another variable in boot selection.
