I'm a little impressed by the people who can detect some huge difference between different tints, beyond light or dark I can't see much difference even then I'm not much bothered.

You should check out a pair of sunglasses with Polarized lenses against a pair of standard efforts (pref not Oakleys-their polarization is sh*t) and if you don't notice a substantial difference then you have to worry :wink:

I suppose what I really mean is that I'm amused or bemused by the pursuit of the perfect tint some people do, I get asked what tint my glasses or goggles are and apparently the right answer isn't "quite dark" or "sort of orange" :D The right answer seems to be "gentle fawn" or "natural willow" (actually I got those from the Dulux paint catalogue). And apparently you're not supposed to select them by saying "I'll have that orange pair".

I just mean there's no perfect tint, sometimes you can't see a lot and there's no way around it other than a reasonable stance and a relaxed attitude :S

Ise, agreed.

Can help to have some mirrory ones on a sunny day and some yellowy ones on a dark day. Got 2 pairs and just make a best guess in the morning. Can cope with the darkies when there's no sun with your method but the others when it's sunny is not do able

All I can see is a vague outline anyway, you've seen what I'm like without my specs on. I need all the help I can get, why do you think I always follow you )

I have the Oakley Persimmon Tint in an L Frame. It's standard for that model and it seems to do the lot. The shading on lenses is really down to how comfortable your eyes feel with the tint. My OH has some glass Ray-Bans with a grey tint, and he has trouble reading through them, takes them off, put on brown tint shades and can read fine. Go figure?

So I guess that for protection and comfort wise goggles are the choice to ski, while my Arnet sun glasses would do just fine to chill out at the cafe.

Double lenses are a must get other wise they would steam, and finaly the tint doesn't seem to be a common decision but the orange ones seem to be the main choice, I don't want to buy two pairs of goggles just for the first week, I feel i've spent far too much already. So I guess i'm going to get a pair of decent goggles from TKMAxx.

actually, no, all the replies are correct normally but they've forgotten you're going for the first time, I'd say good sunglasses are just fine for standing around in lessons. You'll find all the new skill effort may steam up some goggles. Once you get going goggles are probably better, by then you'll have it worked out yourself anyway. Good plan though, go with both.

I like to see as much as possible and require my glasses for distance. I have polarized sunglasses which attach to the glasses with magnets (Easyclip). So for me it is the glasses + sunglasses + goggles (with an orangey tint). I always want to be on the look out for those critters (leaks) that Pavel says hide in the mogals. :mrgreen: Almost hit a squirrel once. (sorry Hirsty - but I was moving at speed and this guy comes right out in front of me.) :shock: Glad I missed him :!:

Sometimes I do have a fogging problem (on the lift) until I get moving down the hill.

Go with what makes you look the coolest and ski the fastest:!:
