Bennyboy, I would suggest that you contact the facility of your choice for an absolute. I do know that Warren Smith runs a series of courses at UK centres throughout the summer, and of course BASI have been running L1 at various centres recently.
They each bring their own Instructors. Each is run by arrangement with the specific centres.
I was approached by a parking warden when I arrived at MK last week. He was enquiring to see if I was on a BASI course and wanted an all day pass. It was nice to be asked :D

You can book as a club and bring your own instructor, I mentioned all this to a friend the other day and she was saying that's what their ski club did, ie make a booking as a club, take beginners and provide instruction/coaching themselves.
That's how I read it. That it was just a tip, not a lesson.
I can imagine the conversations between people on the ride back up. So you pretend to not to look as I show how I angulate and then you go down the other side of the slope so it doesn't look like you are copying me. We'll pretend not to know each other at the bottom..

I didn't misunderstand. That's teaching, it's what we're assessed on when we're qualifying to be ski instructors )
If you set off in a snowplough with someone copying you then you must see that it looks like teaching and you must be able to see why that's not a great idea on a small indoor slope. If you're using a snow plough to stop as well it looks like you're a beginner and it looks like you can't hockey stop and then it looks like you're not really in control so much either. So when the staff see you it looks like one beginner is teaching another, that may not be the case but it's how it appears even using your own account of events.
To put it another way, if you'd been demonstrating how to land a perfect 360' with a grab I'd think you'd not have got any comment at all.

It's really important for folks using indoor centres to have a moderate level of competence. There were reports (several) of a nasty accident at MK last year. A woman skier was unable to control her plough was not taken off the main slope by staff.
One of her runs resulted in her crashing into slope "furniture" at the bottom of the slope. This was an unused park "rail". She collided with it and the rail broke her leg at just above boot cuff height.

hi ise
all that you said in your thread i absoloutly agree with but i think you misunderstood what i was saying,my fault i have read my thread back and not really explained myself well. She can link turns, stop etc but we just noticed i have a much wider stance stopping than she did and she copied to see if that was better or more comfortable. It is true however she had not been skiing for a while and just needed some brushing up on technique so in hindsight maybe she should have gone and had a lesson.I just got pi"?!d off with the attitued of the member of staff who was obviously having a bad day!

seems to be another example of rip-off Britin! I totally agree with Ise's point, if you can't snow plough you should not be there in the 1st place, for the rest of it strikes me that chill factore like everyone else is feeling the pinch a little  personally I'd have told him to blow it out his earhole and be done with it :P
I would have got away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids!

What other places might need such rules, the swimming pool, the skating rink, etc. Maybe we should only allow learner drivers out on the road with qualified instructors in case a family member offers some advise to the student driver :-o.
