Where to GO in North America

For a comparison, where have you skied in Europe?
That's why I'd suggest combining the skiing with a cultural experience. It's not cultural in the Vienna or Rome sense, but it is fun just to see how different and yet the same everyday life is. Experiencing American cuisine is entertaining (if you have ever wondered what it would be like if our parents had not insisted on our using a knife and fork correctly, this is the place to find out), tasty and filling. The shopping could help pay for the trip if you take little and buy next years clothing there. Levi jeans for 12 pounds and Reeboks for 20 pounds.
If you are just going to stay in a resort for the skiing, it would still be different, but maybe not so worth while. Exceptional customer service is the norm at large resorts and lift queues are organised and polite. There's even boxes of hankies (with bins) in the lift lines so you don't have to sniff. High speed chair lifts abound and not a drag lift to be seen.
Given the exchange rate at the moment, I think it's a great opportunity to try North America while it's cheap (relatively speaking).
With the exception of La Grave they are big Tour Op destinations. Have you been anywhere interesting?
**** SKI SNOB ALERT **** :!:
Well, if you say so :D Been to most of the big touristy places, and found it's more fun to go somewhere where no-one speaks my language and there is no "english" bar
