Don't knock it till you,ve tried it.. anyway the more people who don't go means more space for us who like it....enjoy the crowded slopes in France. Austria, Switzerland, Italy and enjoy paying their exorbitant prices

fair point but equally you shouldn't dismiss all the slopes in France. Austria, Switzerland or Italy as busy or the prices as exorbitant when you've clearly not tried them enough either.

Well B****r me....the beer price has gone up this year to 7 Zloties for half a litre. Thats an exorbitant £1.25 and my sirloin steak, chips , veg and 1 litre cost me 34Z this time (about £6.80). And on top of all that we only has 2metres of new snow in 4 days, its was truly horrible!!

We've a family of four here who were at Zakopane last winter and they have said that Jasna offers much more than their Polish holiday....

Just passing on feedback...

Have just done a review of ski trips from UK to Zakopane, maybe someone has some of experience of working with the operators so would appreciate some comments! Cost is between £400 and £600 but we reckon you could easily make savings by being flexible on flight dates and then finding accommodation there on the hop. There are still a lot of small bed and breakfasts, if you know your flight dates then it's worth ringing round to them direct.

The review of packages is available here:

This thread has some interesting aspects. If you take the view, as some do, you have to be in a high resort, or in a big ski area, then the logic is that few people will go to smaller resorts, some of which have great atmosphere, good, but limited length skiing, great local characters.

Then there is the influence of local landowners. This impacts, unseen by skiers, on just about every ski resort. The place that I have seen it the least, is Saalbach/Hinterglemm, where the whole valley seems to have partnered, It even impacts on surrounding areas like Leopold, and in the summer, Zell am zee.

My local resort, Niederau, could easily be a 150km resort. True, the Marbachjoch is riddled with hidden cliffs, gorges, ravines, but with some engineering, great runs could be created. Indeed, many runs, in different resorts contain unseen bridges, ramps, dams.

But many farms have been in the same family for hundreds of years, there are inter-farm/family strifes that impede cooperation. In any village, there are dozens of situations, where families do not speak, for no other reasons, that there grandfathers did not do so. On many occasions, I have spoken to both sides, with mutual pleasantry, but you cannot fill the divide.

Big resorts have big km, small resorts have different interests.

Zakopane is a gorges place although it can get very crowded and getting to it can be awkward. The prices have crept up in recent years. It can be very disorganized too, with lifts next to each other needing different passes due to being owned by different people. plus side most lifts are cheap

I found the bus service to be also disorganized although once you figure it out the buses are cheap and during the day services are good, not so at night

I would say hire a car! Stay away from Sixt and also there is a company offering cheap second hand cars for rental in Krakow, stay away from them too

Sunshine Holidays are good but you can go cheaper DIY

I going back in January for the 12 time
