hi, bought some Salomon Merino wool ones last year which I have to say I could not / cannot fault, bit pricey but at the end of the day you pays for what you gets
I would have got away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids!

Falke socks! That was the name I was looking for when I mentioned the left and right parts!

Thank you SERJOE.

Jan pretty well covered the topic with wit and correct information!

I remember how my mother would make me wear two pairs of socks with my new shoes! You see she bought "larger" shoes so that they would last longer! "I would grow into them" she said. I hated wearing shoes and wore sandles during my "hippie days"!

Since we are on the topic of socks and feet, may I share with you some socks/feet problems.

Often I see skiers on holiday getting all dressed and then going for breakfast with ski boots on! A faux-pas!!!

Your feet will sweat and socks will soon be "wet"!

Jan mentioned the foot odor! I have a small Dr. Schol container of foot powder! It works! Also it dries my feet and allows me to slip into my socks so easily!

I have another personal solution and I will share this with you,,,,if you all promise not to laugh! Nor mention this if we ever meet! Have you ever hear of "baby wipes"?
These are paper napkins or sheets with some form of antibacterial liquid within each sheet! They also smell better than Jan's feet!
Before I put my ski boots on , I take one sheet of,,,,I now call them "ski wipes" since my boys joke about this and voila no more Jan problems!

Another small "sock trick"!I believe that a thin ski sock is the very best, however I have noticed that after serious skiing for 5-7 days I get a "raw"section just below my ankle! The rubbing between my ski and boot liner seems to do this! I have found that placing an elastoplast square tape just below the ankle "protects" this area! Some women ski instructors have told me they put cream in this area!

Another problem area often overlooked in the sock issue is the top elastic section just near the knees. I have several scars in that area and am "sensitive" to any undue pressure! Whenever I get a new pair of socks I always "stretch out" the top section by having my sons hold one section while I pull the other section! I do this until I hear a tear!

One last point. One of the issues all skiers have about ski socks is avoiding creases, pleats which causes pressure points or cuts blood circulation! That is one of the reasons NOT to use thick socks!

I have found that by sprinkling that Dr. Schol foot powder ( baby powder will do fine as long as you do not ski with adult sons) in the rear of the boot cuff will help foot slip into boot!

Do you see how a simple question about socks can generate a wealth of information!

Great answers. Thanks.

I've been skiing since before I can remember but the worst skiing sock mistake I ever made was wearing two pairs. The conversation between foot and ski was lost in translation.

I'll get me some of them ski socks then. It sounds worth it. I will also be investing a pair of decent boots. I was planning to use Edge to Edge near Gatwick. Any feedback or alternative suggestions?

Goes back a long way to my college days. Nobody can remember why the name stuck but it seems quite unique when it comes to forum user names. Sorry but there's no exciting story like, I've got scales or gills.

Mickey,

So we have a university man here! imagine all those years in university , learned about Freudian theory, Black Holes, String Theory and standard deviations yet not about ski socks!
What are out universities doing? How can you graduate from university and not know about ski sock design!

OK let us help Mickey "integrate" into skiing!

Let us see how many relationships we can find between fish and skiing!

1. Modern ski bases for cross-country have a fish scale like base to allow to "kick"!

2. Fish like skiers have a double eye set up to protect eyes. We have gogles.

3.Hexcel skis once introduced a very "wild" ski with a fish tail design!

4.In the 70's in the Spring, American skiers( in California) would eat live fish at end of ski day! The record set was 50 live fish!

5.One of the major snowboard companies has a fish logo! I seem to have several fish stickers, but I do not know which company! Help!!!

6.Sardines are a great "survival" option if you are lost in the woods while skiing. No serious skier who does "back-country" leaves without at least one can of sardines!

7. Stein Erickson, who is ski school Director at Deer Valley offers a great fish and lobster dinner everyday at base of center. For a just $8 you have as much sea food as you can eat! ( without taking skis off)!

8.Fish fossils have been found on the top Snowbird Ski resort! All tower work had to be stopped while "specialist" took out the fossil!

Help help I want to reach 10.....

Think all of you! FISH and SKIING!!!!

Of course of course,,the most obvious!!

9. We have Mickey who soon will be an expert fish skier!

One more one more FISH SKI FISH SKI!!!

Pavel... earlier today it was baby-wipes between your toes and now you've come over all fishy!

Are you sure you're not spending too much time in your ski workshop... inhaling all those wax fumes?

I think you need a snow-fix!
