I had a similar problem.

My wife went off skiing many years ago but I still love it. I'm a dad now and I've got my son interested in skiing so I've been going again with him for the last 10 years or so. However, he sometimes doesn't want to come and so I decided to go on my own when he doesn't and have now been 3 times on my own with another happening this winter.

Each time I have managed to get some very good deals despite being solo - twice with package holidays and twice when booking independently - although without my son I get to go during term time which is generally cheaper (and quieter!) You may not have this option as a teacher but the trips I have booked with my son during Feb half term have been pretty good value too.

Although I love skiing with my son I also love the freedom of going by myself although I do push myself much harder without him. The only negative aspect of being solo I find is eating out in the evening which is pretty boring.

This year he has decided to go with the school organised trip so I'm on my own again and have just booked a package (Eurostar to La Plagne self catering) as this worked out the best value with its 8 days skiing and I was intrigued by the overnight train experience.

Not sure if I am allowed to mention companies so I won't..
My first solo trip was a package trip to Borovets, Bulgaria - Half board with no single supplement @ £568 for absolutely everything (flights, transport, skis, lift pass, food & drink - 6 days skiing)
2nd trip was independently booked to Pas de la Casa, Andorra, Half Board with no single supplement @£725 for everything (7 days skiing this time)
3rd trip independently booked to Les Deux Alpes, france B&B with no single supplement at £791 for 7 days skiing again (post Brexit exchange rates) for everything except evening meals
My coming trip is a package using Eurostar to La Plagne, France - Self Catering with no single supplement. All transport+apartment+skis+lift pass for 8 days on the slopes = £882 (no food/drink included this time)

I hope that you find a similarly good deal and have a great time on your own.

Chris

Hi ski-nuts,
René here. I am new to this forum/site, but not new to skiing ;-)
I live in Belgium (am Dutch actually).
Its been a while (6 years?), but a few weeks ago i booked a hotel in Plagne Soleil, from 16 untill 18 december, alone. Total costs (incl. ski-pass 3 days, hotel with breakfast/diner, trip insurance) € 440! Maybe see one of you out there?

Thanks for all the replies

I didn't look for a while because I was dealing with other things (lawyers and house valuations etc)

But am now back to looking at this since I need something to keep me going til christmas!

I'm lucky that the company I book my school trip with are offering me a very attractive deal in Alpe Dhuez for the 23-30th Dec.

Just need to get a transfer from Geneva now as car hire is mental!

Try AirporTransferServices. They run shuttles and we have one booked from Malpensa. Cheap.
Enjoy your trip.

Hi Rossyhead, I am pretty sure that some of the big TO's will sell you a return seat on one of their coaches if they have something running. They won't drop at your hotel, but will drop and collect from somewhere central in the resort. A friend of mine got a transfer with Crystals like this last season for about £50 return. Might be worth you giving them a call.

Yeah that's what the groups on Facebook are suggesting.

Thanks, going to try Crystal and a few others

You can get a bus from Malpensa or wherever but the (very) few pounds you save are not worth the hassle or the extra time you will be on the road.
The shuttle I listed above is cheap and hopefully reliable. Not much more than your bus option and I could not find any bad Press on the carrier so I am assuming they are good.
Plan C is always to catch the public bus but that means a change in buses and waiting around in a place you don't know and then catching a second bus to get to a place where you still have to walk.
We have been through this in several places/continents and the shuttle option always comes up trumps. The 20 euros (return) or so extra you pay is well worth it and the day you get stranded or take triple the time to arrive makes this a no brainer. Do yourself a favour and price the shuttle before you commit.
Good luck with whatever you do.

Sorted, thanks for all your help - £60 return Geneva to AdH.

Just hope it snows now!
