Book a flight now while they are cheap and book resort and accommodation last minute, I do every December

dear all, I've planned to go to Niseko Japan from 21st to 30th December this year. This is my first time skiing and also first time to Niseko. Can anybody give me some enlightenment on what to look out for? Below are some of my ignorant questions. Thanks for the help.
1) Does this period of time have enough snow to ski at Niseko?
2) is public transport a convenient mode to travel over there or is it safe to self drive there during this period? I heard that the taxi fare is very expensive in Japan.

Cervinea booked for 21 Jan but off to the London Ski Show to see if there are any cheap Christmas/New Year deals.
