All seems fine now - dunno if their whole site was infected but would hate for a fellow J2Skier to get done if they don't use something as hardcore as we do at work...

Thanks guys. All back up exactly what I thought, and why in the past i have dismissed it as a viable option. Yes, I want a decent sized ski area, and to be able to get around it quickly. Beautiful it may be but I am NOT into spending hours on lifts or railways, thanks. Maybe in some future alpine resort tour.

Brucie, it was certainly not a cheap deal, but IMP value for money with Club Med. However, I think on reflection that I will be better off considering elsewhere.

I am wraming to the idea of 3V, Espace Killy or, wait for it, even Andorra. Its trying to persuade my wife after giving them the boot for years, and also my mate and his Mrs who seem to be very anti-France full stop, and said they'd never consider Andorra.

Bottom line is you need to look at what you want from your trip, and for us its easily linked good mileage of fairly quiet pistes.

As the bloke on the Apprentice says: The search continues.

Reading your posts over the years Tony it's obvious that you have a similar opinion about what you want from a ski holiday as I do. A big and well connected ski area that's not €10 a pint.
I love Italy for the food and wine, the people and the fact that it's much cheaper than France.

However if you haven't skied the Three Valleys, do it. In roughly 20 ski holidays my 3 best we're all in the three valleys. It's far from cheap but the lift system and the ease of getting from one huge area to another in very little time means that even in a week of first lift to last you will probably only ski about 30 or 40% of it.
Stay in Meribel, Meribel Valley, Les Men or La Tania and you have great access to everywhere.
I didn't like Val Thorens and probably couldn't afford to stay in Courchevel.
When in doubt?....Flat out.

I learned to ski in VT and have never had any desire to go back since, bad memories of a bleak soulless place combined with a week of pain.

However, everyone says the 3V is one of the best ski areas in the world, so maybe I will have to try it. I've been looking at chalets in Reberty for a while now, just waiting to see if prices drop low enough.

I don't like queuing for lifts or spending lots on food and drink though.

I think that VT has improved over the years - its never going to be chocolate box pretty but nor is it the big "Stalag Luft" block at Tignes either. They've made changes over the year forcing people to build / refurb in a more "sympa" style

Les Menuires is certainly no oil painting but is well connected to Meribel and Courchevel as well as up the same valley to VT and over into Orelle.

Ive been 3 times to 3V and have never queued for a lift anywhere bar the first gondola of the day out of the VT valley (but we never go in school holidays). Equally the prices CAN be horrific if you want to eat in 5 star on piste restaurants but out of the way places have great food at great prices. Drinks - don't drink a lot outside the chalet wine but a few beers at the end of the day is never expensive either as there's always a happy hour deal meaning it's usually around 3.5 - 4 Euro a beer which is cheaper than most UK City Centres and you have to accept they have a captive audience to an extent.

You've said you like to cover some ground in a day and you'll not find anywhere better for that - do Orelle to C1650 and back from Reberty in a day and you'll have achieved!

Spoilt for choice for runs all over - the only real thing missing is trees if the weather comes in

I'm with you about VT, never stayed there wouldn't consider it having skied in and out a few times.
For the same reason I've never been to Tignes as I have ( rightly or not ) a bad impression of it being very like VT.
When in doubt?....Flat out.

Hi Tony

I'd give the Espace Killy some consideration I've just got back from VDI for the second time and I think it would suit your needs. The ski area is big and each part distinct but each well interlinked, the lifts are superb big modern chairs. It's also not as expensive as people make out no worse than anywhere else and after the massive dump of snow they've had this last week the conditions are great

With recent snow fall there should be enough snow to last till April.
