Well done Tony - great report.
We've looked at Club Med before but have been put off by quite a few negative reviews on trip advisor etc. Interesting to hear about it first hand from a j2skier.
We have always been and I think will continue to be DIY holidaymakers. We didn't really like the Crystal ski experience from March last year - the only upside being that we booked very late and got a good discount. Our recent Zermatt holiday (which I still intend to report on) was fully DIY and 100% successful. I'll work out how much it cost pp as well....

If you self-cater it's not very expensive at all. But if people like being served here they generally have to pay for it $$. Club Med is a good set-up to control the budget but not the only one.
