Cant wait to find some pics of what its like there today, providing its open, i assume avalanche risk would be insane after 1m of fresh snow in a day!

Hi Fogs! I just spent 3 days in Bariloche. Good snow, no wind, no clouds, lot of sun. Just perfect!
I would say that Bariloche is the best ski resort of South America. It is the largest for sure.

The advantages are that the town is close and that the views are amazing because there are two beatiful lakes surrounding the mountain. Argentina is quite cheap nowdays too. Specially the food. Generally the people is kind and most of them speaks something resembling English that helps to communicate.

However the weather is usually bad and the lifts are quite old, so the service is so so. However, if you can get in there a sunny day with good snow you'll be very close to heaven. Unfortunately that can be planned only 5 days in advance. To plan, you can try www.snow-forecast.com that is very precise lately, and the ski-center website gives you the updated condition of the snow conditions.

Oh! Just one last but not least important thing: Bariloche (Catedral) is a difficult mountain. It is great for advanced skiers, but could be hell for beginers. For beginers I would recommend Las Leñas (it is more expensive but there are infinite miles of easy slopes) or Chapelco (less expensive).
Nevertheless, Bariloche has a few easy slopes, but usually there are huge lines in the lifts. If you like to combine difficult slopes and good food, take with you a good pair of all-terrain skis and be there after a snow storm.

Hi Guys

I live in Chile and have been doing ski trips every year for the last 4 years, aswell as doing winetours.

I have not been to Chillan although i hope to this season. El Colorado and Valle Nevado are my favourite resorts. I have heard good things about las Leñas but i go where the work takes me.

The end of June is good because you are sure to get snow. I remember last year thinking we would get snow in the middle of june and when it didn´t come i took some people on a wine tour to pass the time before it finally arrived at the end of june.

Ayone got any tips on handling powder snow? Is it better a fatter and lighter ski?

Speed is your best friend in powder. Of course you can buy a fatter ski, though you still need to point your skis down the hill.

Don't worry about finishing your turns, it's easier if you don't bother!

Sledding, snowboarding and paragliding are common activities that they have there. And after all the fun and adventure that you have experienced you can take home a piece or pieces of this place to help you remember through the array of shopping centers and souvenirs shops. Also they offer great dining.
