My wife and I re comfortable intermediates (but not aggressive) and we are taking our two children (20 & 24) who are just finished first course of lessons, so reds and blues will be good. La Clusaz has good on-line reviews, within an hour from Geneva and a bit more reasonable compared to Chamonix. Main concern however is maybe Chamonix a bit advance for my kids, but would take care and choose runs appropriately and pay the extra if there was a likely chance of poor snow conditions in La Clusaz. (given that of course no one has a crystal ball)

Appreciated!

Thanks

In that case La Clusaz. Chamonix wins on huge (and steep) vertical, and an amazing variety of on and off-snow activities but La Clusaz's a great ski area AND a very friendly, French town too. I've skied in La Clusaz many times and will likely be back there again, at least for a short break, this season.

Chamonix's highest (most snow sure) area is the Grands Montets which I wouldn't really recommend for early skiers/intermediates, so you'll be looking at the lower areas anyway.

LC collects and keeps its snow very well and, if you watch our snow reports through the season, is regularly in the top 3 French resorts for snow depths. There are straightforward Blues and Reds to stretch you a bit on the higher slopes...

TBH though, if this season is anything like the last few then March snow won't be a worry wherever you go.

If you have transport Morrilon or verchaix are very convenient for both..its 15 minutes to drive to Les gets or Pras de lys..and you would be on the grand massif so you can have a choice of 3 areas

BTW guys, first time on these forums and very impressed with response and knowledge out there. This is for a weekend trip so will the La Clusaz ski pass be suffice or would the Aravis be better option.

Have a week booked in January at Sestriere but don't want to know if it's not good!!

Thanks again got your insight and advice

Confused by title when you're comparing La Clusaz to Cham! but having skied both I rate Grand Massif over P de S for 2 reasons; links hold up better in poor conditions, and ease of access from Geneva.

I have also skied both and for range of skiing I would pick PDS .....
