Pavel, good points as usual. I have seen plenty of drunken skiers (not instructors it has to be said) in Austria as it happens, but you can get that in Benidorm on the beach if thats what you want out of life.
Yes, I have experienced lifts closed, airports shut, bags being lost, major road closures, but that can happen anywhere. And lets face it, if the snow is causing travel problems, its going to be epic on the mountain.....
I'm well aware of the issues with the Brits in France, only too well. Ask "Tiggy and Tarquin" where they go skiing, its unlikely to be Schladming, Cervinia or Villars.
Should I go to France?

remind me, why did you start this thread? You don't like France, so why consider it?

Yes a ski resort in France will open this weekend.
Great prices and no one on slopes!

I am kinda with you on this Tony. I am not a fan of France either but tend to always go back to ski. Depending on where you go I find the lift systems in France very good. The food is not great, but I can always find somewhere descent enough to eat and the Après is not great either but I can get drunk at home too so it's all about the skiing for me.
Sun holiday to France....never.
Ski holiday to France....usually because it is easier to organise than Italy.
Just saw the 'Should I ski in Austria' thread now!

What's wrong with France? I genuinely don't understand people's concerns. I've skied there 3 times, holidayed in Paris 5 or 6 times. Previously had a great time in the Dordogne and Brittany.
We hired our skis this summer from a french outfit. The owner and his wife couldn't have been more friendly. Ditto for the bike hire shop.
'The food is not great' - I can't believe that!! People might not like the prices but I don't think I've ever had a bad meal/bad sandwich/bad coffee in France. In this country it's a complete lottery....
