How thin is really thin?
One day on my last trip I forgot to put my ski socks on. Yes,odd I know! Anyway, I only had my normal everyday socks with me. I wore those all day. Naturally they were a bit short, however apart from that they were actually quite comfortable. Is this how thin you mean? Or thinner?
My ski socks are not thick at all. Just wondering your definition of "thin" :roll:

Smartwool ... brought a pair from the London ski show a few years back, on recommendation from our old friend Pablo ... I can highly recommend.

My favourite ski sock so far has been http://www.bivouac.co.nz/icebreaker-men-s-skier-mid-over-the-calf-sock.html Being asymmetric (left and right), the seams follow foot contours.
The main things to watch for are that the seams are flat, the socks are not too big/small, and that variations in thickness of panels, will not cause rucking up when putting on your boots (this is also a good indication that the socks are too big). Wool blend almost goes without saying.

Excellent replies, thank you very much. I might pop into TKMaxx tomorrow on the off chance there's still some stuff in there, otherwise it's a trip to the local ski shop on arrival.

I have bought full length knee socks from Tescos, I wear these with the thin shin protectors and they are fine, no numb toes or crumpled up stuff in your boots - two pairs for £4 and you can wear them normally the rest of the year too. Last year in Alpbach a guy checking my boots asked why all the Brits always wore such thick socks. This might be easier for you to find such things in Tescos!
Rather a bad day on the slopes than a good day in the office!

Well the local TK Maxx had nothing in the way of ski gear left, so that scuppered that idea. So ski shop in La Plagne it is then.
