As for the "snow guarantee" forget it - the resort will make sure there is always one or two lifts open thereby ensuring that the insurance is not called even if the skiing is crap

Unfortunately because of "acedemic" constraints SMT will only let the trip go ahead at Easter. We know this is not the best option but we are keen to open the trip to as many as possible thus the price point is important. I am reasonably assured that the higher runs at Sauze/Sestriere/Montgenevre will be open and MW has a fair coverage of snow cannons and there is always Serre Che , Alp D' and L2A reasonably close by.

If you need to bus to other resorts does that not defeat the object of a slope side hotel? Could be wrong but didn't think LDA, ADH or Serre C were on the same lift pass, other than perhaps for a day visit? Could add to costs if you need to pay for extra transport and lift passes if the snow is bad.
Also need to consider if the links between resorts will be open as you'll be very restricted runs wise if they aren't (or need transport to travel between them).
Would they not let you go the week before Christmas? Although it's term time surely they aren't going to be doing that much, it's cheap early season and likely to have better snow than late April?
Good luck with this one – sounds like you're going to need it!

I suppose the positive side is that lots of schools go to the MW at Easter and if the snow was so bad the TO's would not continue to use it as schools get to talk to each other and offer info re conditions etc.
One of out probs is that we will have a fair number of good skiers so we need a good mileage area. We considered more snow sure areas but at our aimed price they were under 100kms...Dilemma!! Oh well free skiing won't be that bad surely...even if it is limited to the higher slopes

Of course, Easter is usually earlier than in 2014 and the extra couple of weeks can be critical
You seem determined to talk yourself into this option. It might well work out fine but if not, do you really want to answer to a bunch of fed-up teenagers and their parents :x
You need to think high and/or glacier to give yourself the best chance of reasonable conditions. Have a look at this site: http://www.hihostels.com/dba/hostels-Les-Deux-Alpes-020115.en.htm
It might be suitable, though I notice that they closed on 7 april last year

Serre che, montgenevre, adh and l2a are inc on the lift pass only for 1 days skiing.
You're better off basing yourself in a guaranteed snow resort with a bus to take you elsewhere in case of poor snow.
I'd recommend val thorens, les arcs, l2a as places to seriously consider.
The head clearly does not understand the relevance of historic snow, altitude, or value for money.
