Northern French Alps, almost anywhere TBH; Les Carroz, Samoens, Morzine, La Clusaz, Chamonix - all are popular in the summer. You can hike or bike through stunning scenery and use the lifts to get you up.
Austrian or Swiss Alps, Dolomites and / or Italian Lakes... Pyrenees... the choice goes on... 8)

SB can you speak French? That's one of my concerns, even though I worked several seasons my French is shocking.
Mr Nelly is as keen as me to make the move but my concern would be the summers, I know they survive but the work would be minimal.
His kids are still at school so it's not an option at the moment but I'm seriously considering a few options and also doing a French course so we can make the move in a few years.
Interesting thread though, makes me want to do it more :)

I earned just over 100quid a week teaching maths in Italy but my hours were 3-6, 5days a week which literally lead to maximum ski time!
You quickly realise you don't need a massive amount of money if you live in the mountains-although my ski pass and accommodation was included.
Would love to do it again but sadly that time has passed-unless Morrisons open a store in tirano for my oh to work in!

I met a chap who worked as a self employed builder on Lanzarote during the summer and then ran an airport shuttle service in the Alps during the winter. Outdoor work all year round, a house in both places (available to rent out when in the other location) good wine/coffee and a season's skiing every year. Hmmmmm.

I often think about this and think if I were single it would of happened years ago. But Mrs TowerBridge hates winter and the cold so it would never happen (Although I think I have persuaded her to give it a try at an indoor slope this summer).
As Nelly mentioned the language barrier would be a big problem for me so if I was to make the move I think it would be over the pond.

I did the winter/summer thing when I was much younger, I spent two years living in Chamonix which included the summers (shocking that my French is so rubbish), and then I did winters in the alps follwed by summers in the med on yachts working my @rse off and saving money to travel.
As much fun as that was, I was living out of several suitcases that were at my parents house and I'd just pop home and change over at the end of the seasons, if I were to do it again it would be permenant, so I need to improve my French and decided what I could do out there.
For anyone that's interested this is quite a handy website http://frenchalps.angloinfo.com/
