Tbf mate, my missus will only want to ski till lunch time. So, she'll have her lessons, ski an hour or so till 1 and then head back to the chalet for a rest. As long as the ski school can bring her on in that week, I'll consider it a success. I'm also hoping that the sunnier aspect will keep her on the slopes longer, as the last time she came with me it was bitterly cold most of the time and it didn't agree with her.

Bad Gastein is also still at the top of my list. Got a lads trip planned so trying to convince them that Gastein will be a better bet than Obergurgl, depending on the snow of course!

If she fancys quiting skiing Bad Hofgastein which is 5 mins away on the free ski bus is a must if she fancys a day of pampering it has the best wellness centre (health club to us brits) that you could possibly find. For £25 she could go there for the day and you could stay on the same bus for 10mins ank ski in Dorfgatein/Grossarl great runs and not to busy with some great little restaurants and bars scattered around on the runs.Your Gastein
valley pass cover you for Sportgastein/Bad Hof/Bag Gas/Dorfgastein & Grossarl + Bad Hofgastein has a 16km run (1a +1b) which is a great red run that take you from top to bottom of the resort back to the fenicular and bus stop near to the Wellness area where you can meet the wife. Gastein valley every time, i go there nearly every year + have a cheeky lads one like yourself.

Ok, so a trip to Bad Gastein is becoming a distinct possibility having uncovered a good deal for a week in January; £600pp including ski carriage and area lift pass, half board central hotel with flights and transfers.

Its basically a choice between that and a similarly priced package to Claviere in Italy, next to Montgenevre and on the big ViaLattea circuit, a lot of which I have already skied from Sauze in the past.

Claviere looks rustic and sleepy, and the hotel is next to the lift with a piste to the door.
Bad Gastein looks swanky, towny and cosmopolitan, but the hotel is not adjacent to the lifts so we'd need a short walk or ski bus each morning. Not a problem as we've been used to that in other resorts in the past (St Anton, Mayrhofen, Verbier for instance)

I'd welcome anyones first hand experience of either resort. Thanks in advance.

There is nothing at all to do in Claviere unless you ski, it has about 3 shops in total. If wife ends up low down where the ski school meet and you are staying further up the village, the walk isn't far but really steep coming back, I did it with 2 kiddies. Really tiring!

Good price mate .... Hire a ski locker and dump your gear at the lifts
