Apres ski would have to be at Everest Base Camp. 18,000ft. My eldest son has hiked there on an 11 day walk, (a decision made one boozy night with his mates in a Dundee Pub). Nobody escaped alpine sickness. They witnessed one poor Japanese guy passing through. Both the camp, and life. From what I gather, apres ski consisted of being unable to sleep due to lack of oxygen, followed by a day of energyless walking.
There was an upside. When he subsequently interviewed Reinhold Messner, he was doing less than average until he mentioned his visit to Everest ~ after which he commanded 100% of Messner's attention. I was able to utilise some reflected glory when my son introduced me to Messner, and we were able to chat about skiing. (Well I certainly wasn't going to talk about mountain climbing!
