Unplanned Face Planting

Right, now I've read this properly and it says face planting and not face painting I get the relevance now.

I was on my first afternoon skiing in a couple of years in January so was on an easy blue in Val d'Isere which turns out not to be so easy, as it was extremely narrow and very icy - like a natural half-pipe (not sure if there is a proper term for them).

Anyway as I was the first in the group I decided to lead people into a few gentle jumps up each side of the run. Unfortunately on the second attemptI found that the snow was absolutely solid ice which caused my skis to step dead. I was catapulted forward out of my bindings and flew chin first into the snow off the side of the run.

My only fall all week, and it had to be witnessed by the whole group and i was left with a grazed chin as a reminder. Zut Alors.

Looks to me like thats from skiing somewhere he shouldn't have been rather than caused by leaning forward tooooo much :wink:

BY THE WAY (Emma), the question was raised by bilip as to whether he would face plant by leaning tooooo far forward, not has anyone ever face planted.... :roll:

By tha way (TONY) it still has no relevance to Niederau, and Billip is having a smacked bum. So there. :twisted:

I'd like to share my story of face planting (not face painting). It took place off piste in Mayrhofen during my days on the dark side as a snowboarder.

It was a lovely sunny day, there was tons of powder, I was going for a small jump but ended up digging the front of my board into a drift and then somersaulting over a small tree, and landing face first into (fortunately) another snow drift.

Apparently it was quite spectacular.
