Better skiing: Lessons or practices?

There seem to be a different perspective elsewhere though, as I have heard of "keep practising" motto.
As for myself I did start off with a couple of hours of lessons, because I am a firm believer of building the right fundamentals. But having learnt the basics, one should be able to figure out how his body works, to observe and to imitate, or at least work via a "spot" or buddy system to improve, experiment or learn something new.
So, just taking a poll, are you guys instructors or do you *really* take lessons as you ski every season? (as a non-professional) ...or do you practise, practise, practise?

It is hard work for an instructor to try and go backwards in someones skiing than it is to start with a blank canvas...

Edit: Instructors aren't paid enough for 'hard work' ;)

However, every time I go on holiday I have one 2 hour private lesson. I've never failed to learn something, and so far, it's never failed to improve my skiing in some way. last week it was invaluable for learning to ski deep powder, and massively increased my confidence. The rest of the time is practice and fun.
