Yeah, don't worry Tony, just figured out you were addressing Ally.

Packing Lists save space, time, weight. Perhaps, you don't need quite so much detail.

Packing lists like mine, mean that you will spend some time washing clobber.

Tony,
I guess I have moved on a bit from my first ski holiday (picture below) when I was 8 at Sauze in Italy. I now include a lot more stuff when I pack for my ski holiday. In the photo I'm not wearing any special ski clothes at all, presumably because my parents couldn't afford to buy stuff for the six of us.

I skied all week quite happily in jeans, anorak, jumper, thick socks, normal gloves, no hat, no goggles, no sun cream and no lipsalve. I'm quite sure I wasn't blinded by the light reflected off the snow or sun burnt - maybe the depletion in the ozone layer has had an effect on this?

If you click on the picture it gets bigger.

Ally

Wheeee, Ally, lookit here at you as an 8 year old.

From your photo: -
Lace-up boots
Cable bindings
Retainer straps
Leather baskets

Colour photo, though.

I have one of my first day on skis, I calculate it would be 2 years earlier than yours, same gear, black and white photo. Photo taken a couple of hours before I had the full leg plaster cast fitted!

Dave Mac,
That photo was taken around 1969. I have a few more taken on the same holiday if anyone is interested in old photos of Sauze.

Let's see your early ski photo (unless you want to start another thread on historical ski photos).

What on earth happened to your leg?

Ally

Nay chance of seeing that photo, it would be used in evidence against me. TonyH would dine out forever on that pic.

Cable bindings ~ medial ligament. Full length cast.

You mean, the old bindings didn't come undone like the new ones (I can't remember - I was only 8!) so your leg bust instead?

Imagine pushing your boot front into a toe binding, with a loop of spring cable attached to the binding. The loop ran down each side of the ski, passing through two clips on each side.

You pulled the end of the loop up behind your heel, and hooked onto the back of the boot. Pull a cam lever at the toe binding, and the cable loop tightened the boot towards the toe.

The problem was that as the skis hit together, the cable was trapped in the clips, and the bindings seized.

So along comes a slow, twisting fall, and.... CRACK.
