Hello,

I'm looking at taking a short break in France and looking for some advice. My partner is a keen skiier (25+ Years) and I've been learning over the last two seasons. We went to Zermatt in early Jan and although we both enjoyed it, found it shockingly expensive.

Hoping to take short break in late march and I'm just looking for some advice on how to get a good holiday minus the T.O. :)

We're looking at Morzine, as from what I've read on the forum it's a short transfer from Geneva.

Has anyone got any recommendations for self catering appartments? What's the best way to organise a transfer? Quite keen to keep the costs down.

Thanks in advance for advice.

Cheers

Short breaks do not work out cheap so expect to pay, this years short break to Adelboden was mainly paid for by air-miles well at least the flight and the hire car was. My advice is go though the resort of your choices website, I've never tried to book an apartment we normally go for a hotel as it is just Mrs W and I and it is a bit of a treat this years hotels costing about £500 depending on exchange rate and that is half board.
But the skill of it is to find the hotels which have not been booked out by the TO's, we have normally found that the standard of food is higher and you can tell by my pics and vid I do like a good meal.

Cheers for the intel Ian :D

That being the case I'll re-evaluate the budget. Zermatt ended up being well past the 3K mark so even if it works out 1400 all in, it's still a massive improvement.

Didn't realise Transfer costs would vary so widely.

Many thanks

You seriously need to recsonsider which companies you use for holidays

You thought Zermatt was expensive, and you want to go to France?

I am looking at Zermatt early Jan, sub £500 for chalet, flights, and transfers. Lift pass etc extra.

Zermatt was shockingly expensive, we went with Inghams stayed at the Tschugge hotel, had to upgrade the room as the one offered wasn't great, I had two days personnal tuition (740CHF )

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g188098-d258621-Reviews-Tschugge-Zermatt_Valais_Swiss_Alps.html

I'd agree with the last review. 4 star it isn't.

So it all came up to a massive bill, hence the next trip we're cutting out the middle man and trying to do it a touch more sensibly.

Drinks etc were expensive in Zermatt, I felt. One Pizza place we went to was charging 30CHF for a pizza.

So how much should you be able to ski for in France? for a 3 night break? Just need a figure to try and aim for.

Many thanks
