For our first summary of 2009, we're delighted to report that many parts of The Alps received a decent fall of snow last night.
Weather and Snow Next Week
The next few days are unlikely to see much snow falling in Europe, although widespread falls are looking quite possible for the middle of next week - more on that as the forecasts develop.
The dominant feature of the weather for the next week, however, is going to be quite a dip in temperatures. Particularly over the coming weekend, temperatures look likely to drop 10-15 degrees (C) below their current (relatively normal) levels, possibly more. North, East and Central Alps will be coolest and some localised areas could get very cold indeed.
If you're heading out this weekend you should have good conditions but it will be cold - layer up and make sure your gloves are good. On the plus side, you should get some sunshine and the snow will keep well... but do wrap up.
We'll be back with an update at the beginning of next week as the forecast models are still un-clear beyond the next seven days, but looking like they might get interesting...
