I got curious about this (sorry everyone, off topic I know) and looked it up on Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_skiing

According to this the world ski speed record is 156 mph and there are quite a few special ski runs in various resorts for doing this, which are only 1-2 Km long (there's one in Les Arcs for example).

In his St Moritz report Tony says he got up to 80 km per hour. I sometimes feel like I'm doing about 100 mph but I suspect I'm only doing about 15 mph

I was clocked at 130kph on the KL in Les Arcs = 80mph
I was seriously scared
I had to go down the run as the side was some steep and big icy moguls and my poles had been "borrowed" by a film crew to tape a camera to as the real speed skier went down (with my poles and a camera).
This was well before head cameras etc.
They told me to just tuck and under no circumstances try to slow down but wait for the run out which is uphill.
 I survived but never again.

Ally, am going to Japan because from Australia, it is much closer than America or Europe. Am going to a resort called Rusutsu on the northern island of Hokkaido hopefully to get some good deep powder. while much of Europe is missing out on decent snowfalls, Japan has had a pretty good season of snow so far, after a fairly late start to the season.
