I've had a couple of PMs regarding the new SkiSet Ski Hire categories for this year, so thought I'd write up a brief description of the different levels.

Their objective is to give a wider choice of ski so you can be reassured that the equipment you hire will suit you.

There are three levels roughly corresponding to your ability and experience; Discovery, Performance and Excellence (corresponding to the old categories of Silver, Gold and Platinum respectively.

There is also an Economy category - equivalent to the old Bronze.

Within the first three categories you can also opt for either a Recreation or a Sport option; the former being easier, more forgiving skis and the latter being more technical and responsive.

For a fuller description, and guide on making your choice, check our page on Ski Hire in Tignes.

To make sure you get the best discount for any particular date, use the J2Ski link - http://www.skiset.co.uk/j2ski/.

If you have any questions on the new levels, post them here...

I had a look on the skiset website (as per link posted up by Admin) with a view to pre-booking my equipment for my Feb 10 ski hols. Either it's just me or the website doesn't seem to want to take any bookings.

Does anyone affliated with skiset know when this booking system will be up and running again?

If anyone is interested, the skiset website appears to be up and running now with bookings going live from September.

My experience booking with ski set when I went to Niederau was I paid for the intermediate boots and skis thinking i would get better quality ski stuff. the reality of it was that i could have paid the basic amount or had all the bells and whistles and still ended up with the same stuff in the shop. they werent interested in what i had ordered, just that i had prebooked, and asked what level i was. so if i had of known that before hand i would have paid the minimum amount and still got the same - hence i was kicking myself. even though i had paid for silver stuff i ended up with a pair of boots that looked about 20 year old (but saying that they were so comfy).

The shop did not seem to be aware at all what i had paid, or whether i had ordered bronze, silver or gold - only the fact i had prebooked a set of skis and boots. they didnt even have the information i had took the time to fill out and had to waste valuable skiing time filling this information in again. so either ski set are not passing this info on, or the shop did not have a good enough computer system to receive this info. so if you are going to niderau and booking through skiset, pay the least amount you can, you still will end up with the same thing.

Karen - did you take this up with SkiSet at the time? You should have received at least what you paid for, and all your details should most certainly have been available at the shop (that being the whole point of taking them, of course).

No, DO NOT do that. If you have any concerns about the service you receive when you collect your skis (here or anywhere else) then you should contact SkiSet immediately - so that they are able to put things right while you're on holiday.

SkiSet work with over 600 shops in 350+ resorts, so the occasional issue will arise. In four seasons of working with them we know them to be committed to the quality of the network, and to respond quickly.

Karen, please PM me with details of your booking, so I can forward that to SkiSet.

Karen,
That must have been very annoying.

I've pre-booked skis 3 times on the internet (with Intersport) and each time when I got to the resort they didn't have the details about my weight and height, which was very annoying as I can never remember how much I weigh in Kg.

But the skis and boots were fine when I got them, and of the correct standard.

The first ski shop I went to, in Zell am See, had weighing scales and a height measurer. Why don't they all?

Ally they had scales and a measureing stick but we were wrapped up in winter coats and were dripping with sweat and with 3 kids in tow this just added to the annoyance having to redo it!

Admin - I have pm'd you
thanks
