learning to ski

This is the sort of stuff I imagine the OP will find very useful. The thread had drifted somewhat and much of the advice, albeit well-intended, would probably go right over the head of a first-time skier. I've picked up some good tips though (thanks guys) -) .
By the way Edgy, how did you get on with the White Rock gloves?
Hey Gaz, overall I would say excellent for the price. I didn't really get to test them in the cold as it was so warm the last week in Niederau and I mostly used them without the fleece inner glove. The palm grip was really helpful for gripping the poles, carrying skis and the drag lifts although I now have a tiny hole in one of the grips. The wrist strap was a very useful feature as I had to take them off a few times half way up a lift. The long snow cuff and inner lining will be great in colder conditions. They are now even cheaper online - really hard to be beat for the price.
Wow, £19.99! Bargain :-) .
I'm thinking of a second pair ;)
Why buy the same make if they are holed after one week
Spend a little more money and you will see your gloves last a lot longer, important equipment gloves

I'm a beginner also and just back from a week of lessons in Niederau with an hour on my own before and after each 4 hour day with the group and instructor. I pretty much skied all day every day for a week trying to improve my technique. Only on the last day I was beginning to get slight hints of parallel here and there but not much and it really doesn't matter yet. Turn how you can at your own pace and you will improve with time, effort and patience. Put in the hours, get lessons daily while you are on holiday and watch other skiers - also gives you something to do while going up on the drag lifts :)

I take your point but I'm 90% sure the small hole is caused by the palm grip getting caught between the ski edges when I pick them up. The same ski edges sliced a longer hole in my ski trousers too. It's on the right glove and thats the one that gets all the ski edge abuse :)Ian Wickham wrote:Edgeoftheworld wrote:Gaz C wrote:Edgeoftheworld wrote: They are now even cheaper online - really hard to be beat for the price.
