Getting ski boots that fit
Login
Hi Adam, tried about 40 different boots on in 5 different shops......to be fair, heads were usually the least bad but nowhere near comfortable!
Custom made Daleboot VFF Pro's are on their way from Austria to be fitted on Friday before I head to Morzine on Saturday!
Cutting it a bit fine but hopefully it will all be worth it in the end

Your point on logistics is well taken , but I think you would be unlucky not to sort out teething troubles with a couple of visits in the week. Usually you would leave them after skiing and pick up next morning. In the end I suppose people will only suggest what worked for them, but I would stress it is all too easy to buy boots that feel fine because they are too big, and as others have pointed out as soon as the inners start to compress and your skiing improves, you will have problems.( done it myself with my 1st pair, and I know others who have done the same)

My feet sound the same shape as yours. Wide and high instep? I bought a cheap pair of head ez 10 years ago for £70 and never had any problems (2 trips a year).I decided time for a new pair this year and waited til I got to Wengen to test/rent a new pair. 1st shop gave up but eventually a bigger shop dug deep and found a pair of boots to fit (at least 10 pairs later). They are new and I am renting unless I like and decide to buy them. The make is head again and 2 days into holiday and still no problems. Seems head are best place to start. Good luck

I have size 12 supporting a 6'5" 97kg frame and I don't fit any off the shelf boots with 90/100m lasts. They simply put odd pressure in odd places.
This season I had the same issue, I came out of a Strolz custom that I have skied on for 6 years. The shell was getting flappy and it was all packed out, and the whole thing was doing my skiing no good as I couldnt initiate anything. My hope for was for some Lange RX 130, a good stiff race boot, but my feet are just too wide. When we looked at the shell sizing for my Strolz I was in one that was about 5mm too big, thats how they got around my wide feet.
I am now in a pair of Salomon custom impact 120 cs and they fit fine out of the box. No punching or adjustments required. My advice is shop for new boots but have no preconceived ideas about the boot you want, your bootfitter should be good enough to shell size you and find a boot that fits properly. One that works off the shelf is the best as you wont go through years of tweaks and adjustments that end up costing you a fortune in time and money.
I hope you go ok with the Daleboot, I would be interested to hear your result.
