Re:Should I drop my trousers?

Watching the ebb and flow of skiers and especially snowboarders I think I have identified a substantial flaw in my technique. My trousers are way too comfortable!

It would appear that to ensure the perfect posture it’s a critical requirement that each pace forward (when walking) is accompanied by a hand (either is OK) that hitches your ski pants up to a point just below that which would ensure the trousers actually stayed up!

Once moving on skis or board then all attempts to retain the vertical positioning of the lower garments should be stopped. It’s interesting to note that even extreme lack of manoeuvrability is not sufficient motivation to ensure an upward relocation.

Today provided me with a great learning opportunity, a young (16-17yr old) guy, skiing in an exclusively male group was compelled, whilst navigating a route between two pistes, to actively reduce the gap between feet and waist band to the point where the flesh at the top of his thighs was visible below his foundation wear. Needless to say, when the piste opened out and became steeper there was one member of the party who was so totally unable to demonstrate even the most basic of techniques that he ended up collapsed in a heap at the side of the slope with what looked like a substantial quantity of snow in an uncomfortable location …

So, you young guns, what’s the word? Or am I just so hopelessly old that I couldn’t “get” the importance of this new-fangled technique?

Technical answers anticipated!!

p.s. perhaps a pair of braces or a belt should be awarded to the fullest answer!

Don't forget the stance - feet locked together, one slightly in front of the other, pole handles held firmly against stomach and generally going backwards.

I noticed that the skateboarders around Edinburgh have been wearing really tight clothing over the past couple of years.

Since skateboarding fashion usually feeds to snowboarding and park skiing I rekon that in the next few seasons they'll all be wearing skin tights lycra on the slopes. )

Good point well made. Really tight jeans but still with the low 'arse' section. Looks really uncomfortable. Transfer it wintersports and we'll have ourselves some sketchy Emu's riding the place.

This is whats commenly reffered to as an "emo". These trousers you describe are known as skinny jeans and certainly where i am many girls have a new craze of "girl boxers" which are essentially the same as male boxers minus the pouch so it is common to see girls backsides poking out but not wearing what you'd want to see!
It isn't uncommon for the males trousers to actually be a females trouser!

Hope i am of assitance

I knew it was called "Emo" which I find strange as it looks more like '70s New york Punk.

And my ex used to wear girlie boxers all the time. Something very saucy about it.

Jan,

Welcome to the world of adolescences ! Previously it was defined as persons in the 13-19 age range! Now it is more "elastic" with some in the 20+ range!

We all "passed" this stage and I am sure you are aware of the definition of this "stage"! An adolescent is a person who can not believe that one day he/she will be as "dumb" as her father or mother!

The one overall factor that drives ados is to "belong" to be accepted by peer group! So clothing choices are not based on "functionality" but on "acceptance".

Several years ago it was nearly impossible to have male adolescents wear tuques or hats in winter! In fact it was a major problem white ski patrollers since many males ados would get serious frost bite! Now in the middle of summer heat what do you see??? Tuques with hooded sweats!

It is but a passing phase, until "they" discover their own style and can dress because they wish to integrate society! Meanwhile just enjoy view!

The very best will come in Spring, when it is hot with +10 and sun melting snow! Those hats create steamed heads, pants are great snow scoppers, low low crotch catch the tops of moguls and as you jump from the tops of moguls,,,,they watch over-heated!

Be young , let little boy in you show your style!
