I took my other half away last march for the first time... he is 33, and over the year he appears to have got better (without any more than 6 days skiing).. is this normal for a man??? lol
He has "announced" today, that he will be a ski instuctor and we wil take a career break and settle in the alps foy a 5 month perod !!
He does get like this wich is why I guess I love hime, but he has made me post this.
HE wants to know how to be a qualified instructer through the quickest available route (I hate to say it, but he is a bit of a blooming natural!!)
any info will be great - and give him a project to get on with.zzzzzzzzzz.

:Dhi,i feel your other half may have missed the boat for this season (unless he takes an instructor course over the year on european glaciers,or goes to New Zealand in the summer) a lot of courses once the basic elements have been passed will then require a length of time (so many teaching hours) as a probationer before being given full instructor status. Also to teach in france the final element is to race a preset slalom course within a certain time set down by a race qualified instructor.
For more info about becomming an instructor you could try conacting B.A.S.I (British Association of Snowsports Instructors ,or I.S.I.A (International Ski Instructors Association).
As for your other halfs miraculous skiing advancement the only thing i can think of is to loosen his bindings :D
many regards
jon.

Well, I wouldn't do it in France, for sure. The Ecole du Ski Francais is simply a xenophobe cartel whose members do just about everything to make sure you're going to fail. Even after qualifying, my friend found herself arrested on a trumped up charge because the ESF were determined to hound her out of the resort. Think about doing it in Switzerland or Italy. The Swiss programme is about 12 weeks and costs around £6K, according to my son's instructor. My son did the first week on the basis of a week's 1:1 instruction and got this as a credt, and is considering doing this winter in Switzerland to qualify.

If he's really serious, he could join a gap year group and qualify. Courses are run in Europe/US or throughout the summer in the Southern Hemisphere. He needs to consider which teaching system he wants to qualify with PSIA/BASI/CSIA for example.
