I'd say thats as honest an assessment of the place I have seen on here since.........well, mine.Coop wrote:
On the downside, N is a ghost town. The week I was there, there was very little evening entertainment. The few bars there are, are frankly awful.
N is a decent place to go if you're happy making the most of the limited slopes or you're after first class ski tuition or you have a young family in tow.

A quick hello as my very first post on this forum. I have been "lurking" for a few months and been rather amused to see the polarised opinions about Niederau.....or "N" as I think is now the correct, safer, term.
I write because I have just bought a small house in "N", although....err......have NEVER actually skiied there. I know SkiWelt better, and to be honest that is my real "destination" and therefore reason for purchasing in the area. But I am sure Niederau will be just fine for casual days, or for visitors and the kids etc.
Fortunately I live just 2 hours drive from Niederau so should be able to use it quite a lot as a holiday home. The place needs refurbishing so I would be grateful for PM's from any locals with recommendations re plumbers etc. Upgrading the central heating is my immediate issue, although I understand that piped GAS is not available (so probably stuck with oil or maybe a sunken gas tank?).
And of course next season I look forward to meeting some of the regulars that post here :-) In Winter I will be there every weekend and quite a bit during the week as well I suspect!
Jonathan.

I'm a little worried about what I need to do as "initiation" to the N-Mafia but hopefully it does not involve drinking the local Schnapps.

Just got back today from Niederau, what can I say, other than has already been said. We were extremely lucky that it snowed and replenished the slopes.
Skiing there for a day was ok but for intermediate skiers that my hubby and I are, we found Auffach a much better area and a two day trip to the ski welt was the icing on the cake.
As for Niederau, we stayed at the Harfenwirt hotel and the owner Herbert seems to own quite a lot of properties including the two ski shops in N. He is quite a character!! but if you make friends with him it could be very helpful for your stay or if you live in Niederau.
The night life was limited but we met some great people and had a laugh in O'Malleys the Irish bar and the only club (if you can call it that!) The Cave.
Niederau is a good base to visit the surrounding ski areas and reasonable value for money.
