But you survived without incident, right?
Its a bit like flying Monarch Airlines. Their planes are ALMOST as old as your ferry, buy not quite, but instead of smelling of a dead dog, they just smell of human pooh because everyone on board is so scared the wings are going to fall off....!!!

Tony, at least with an old plane, the folks up front can actually fly it, as opposed to calling PC World when it goes wrong )

We did survive, and one advantage of the ferry is that I can swim without a boat, but not fly without a plane.

I used the fast cat once, the only time I've ever been sea sick, it was so rough that you had to be escorted to the toilet by a member of the crew (who were also throwing up). Still it could have been worse as a Range Rover had moved on the car deck and wiped out the three cars parked next to it and then buried itself in the bulkhead.
Live each day as if it's your last, you never know what tommorrow brings!

"picture-box" and "budget" don't usually fit together. i'm thinking specifically of Zermatt, Verbier et al. Certainly the ones with any level of amenities.

Les Gets isn't THAT bad. It's nice enough. I only noticed one shop selling all manner of newspapers (like the one they have on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh) and I never saw any cars with UK plates. But i don't think it's that cheap - especially if you are looking for something budget.

my cheapest chalets are in nassfeld, austria, nr Montriond, a nice one in Morzine that really does have outstanding views and one in Les Arcs.

The chalets i know and have used in Les Gets aren't "budget" by a fair stretch

hope you find something! school holidays can be a bind.

My tip is to choose somewhere and then just ring some of the agencies - something that a lot of mainland Europeans seem to do. Where we go in Switzerland (the Valais) is, as suggested, a satellite resort, where a 2-bedroom apartment will be about £425 a week including bedding via an agency. Also check-out flying and then public transport vs car hire - sometimes it's cheaper. e.g. Geneva airport to the Swiss Valais resorts by train then bus/telecabine would be around £50 return per person (see www.sbb.ch). I assume the same is true for the French and Italian Alps.

Very true, Bandit.
Last time I had a delay, it was because they had to fit a new computer to an Airbus, as they dont work without an old Mac plugged in apparently.

I'm stunned by that, it's like the car park of the Bluewater shopping centre in Les Gets.

That's unfair to Bluewater, their parking is orderly and spacious, except on Bank Holidays
