- Post Rating is back! You can now give every Post you read a rating, which will result in a number of stars being shown to indicate the average score for that post. The ratings will only be shown for Posts (i.e. not for Users) to avoid the silliness we had before... 8) ...and you get one vote per post!

That's a great way to do it. Should keep things nice, without stigmatising someone for life :D

Well maybe not. I just saw Bandit must have spent some time on a very informative post which got 3 stars. If someone thought some info was incorrect, it would have been easy to mention it. Instead a valuable post is made to look like the info is suspect.

Well spotted Trencher, and thanks for the validation of the value of my post, which took a while to compose

Seems the Rating system could be open to abuse, from those who feel disenfranchised/spiteful/mischievous/abusive/mad
(delete as appropriate)

How long will it be before a pattern emerges?

Fair point... I've removed the lower ratings now; so the only purpose of the stars is to rate "good" posts.

Still does not work. It would not change the fact that someone only gives bandit post a 3.

Why do we have to have them back at all? They caused a lot of squabbling historically, what is the gain now?

Surely a  is enough if someone likes it? Stars are far too subjective.

I have a cunning plan...

Although we may change it to a simple thumbsup / like, if the stars still cause angst.

Not another competition that I can't work out how to enter? Cough *igluski* cough.

Thumb up or like button would be good. Takes away the, 'its good, but not that good'.

A thumbs up button would certainly be good for cutting back on "quoted +1" posts stretching out a thread.

I shall look forward to that in due course as I was wondering what the benefit would be.

I can really see the benefit for a new or occasional user wanting real skiing/boarding/travel/kit - etc etc related info to get some idea whether other users rate the point made in a post but am also sceptical, at the moment, about how we will respond.

3V - ????? about 27 ????

WOW

If I score it this way it could be one serious figure

But big apology to Adders - this has nothing to do with your new forum tweaks.
WIBBLE ALERT

No, no, no Andy...satellites only count IF you've had separate trips/holidays in each; linked, but distinct resorts do count - as long as you've skied for at least two days in the other to which you've been staying! Complicated, but fair!

And I've just remembered a new one: HOCHWANG!
