The planning application to demolish the existing facilities at the Midlothian Snowsports Centre at Hillend, Edinburgh has been approved by the local authority.
The new two-storey facility will be called 'Destination Hillend' and will be set 'sensitively' into the hillside to match the local surrounding hills.
Plans for the new centre include an indoor soft play space and climbing wall as well as skiing facilities.
It's also proposed that 'Destination Hillend' includes what would be Scotland's first alpine coaster and a zip wire.
Architects Smith Scott Mullan's plans for the development have a net zero target and will use renewable energy.
Project manager Paul Campbell said:
'This project will safeguard the future of a facility already well-loved by everyone from Olympians to novice snowboarders.'
Work has already begun on a new access road, car park and landscaping.
