Forgot to say, you get a discount on your lift pass at SchiWelt, providing you are over 80.

I do not, I hasten to add, qualify, in spite of Bandit's attempts to prove otherwise.

The layed back way of life away from the hustle and bustle is bliss.I too would love to go back to the likes of St Anton which i have skied many moons ago, But my kids are way too inexperianced to take advantage of what a resort like that has to offer. I must admit that i am curious about what the Hof has to offer,Meaning suitability for the kids Tony ?

Interesting one AJ. Mayrhofen is a good place for intermediates to be honest. Theres no greens or what you would call easy or beginner slopes, but theres a number of blues and the reds are, in the main, nice and wide and not too difficult. That said, there are one or two reds best left to highly competent and experienced skiers.
Ski schools have a nursery area, but they very soon take classes onto the reds on the front of the Penken, 1 and 11, which I have always skied a couple of times first thing before the ski schools get up, and then head over the back to the more interesting areas.

Provided the kids are not total beginners or still snowploughing around, and are comfortable on most slopes, I would think you might find Mayrhofen an interesting place. There are some lovely uncrowded slopes over at Rastkogel and Eggalm, which are a joy to ski when the suns out, as it often is. Lifts are all fast and I have never queued, except last Xmas/New Year week (I would never go anywhere that time of year ever again to be honest as I hate having to queue).

Take a look at the piste map (its a big one in comparison )) on www.mayrhofen.at and see what you think. The lift pass covers lots of skiing, including Zell which is less crowded and nice cruisy skiing, and the Ahorn is perfect for those less confident and beginners.

My first trip to Mayrhofen was as something of a novice, and I was ok. Yes, I had a few tumbles on one or two of the steeper reds and the more technically challenging slopes, but its all part of progressing and gaining experience.

Anyone who asks if its worth going to Mayrhofen should just give it a go and decide from themselves. I think one mans meat is another mans poison, Niederau proves the case, but if you like lots of pistes to go at, sunshine (when its out), fast lifts, good food and cheapish prices in a lively but not in your face town, go there and see for yourself.

Cheer`s Tony i`ll keep that in mind.Dave Mac its sounds like you`ve been the perfect gent this wk and im sure you`ve enjoyed every minute as much a Caron-a if not more.I bet she`s floating on air at this minute and its probably going to be some time before she lands.

I think your boys are going to be whacked out next wk when you take them through their paces. Enjoy the rest of your hollie bobs and steady on the schnapps.

Your right Adele, I did enjoy the whole bit. Caron is in the top three of people that I have had the privelige of giving a little help to, over the years. I had to keep reminding myself of how much she has fought her way back from injury. I hope that Caron does not mind me mentioning that during her first ski comeback this week, she was wearing TWO knee brace hinges.

Errm, they both believe they are quicker than me. They are certainly both fitter than I am. It is certainly going to be interesting, it will be the first time for four years that we will all get to ski together.

Enjoy the rest of your hollie bobs and steady on the schnapps.

Which?

Skiing is still never less than good. Both sons giving it a blast, knocking out about 16 runs a day, plus plenty of "playing" on the top runs.

Big bonus is my Frau, - she is skiing the mountain, mended broken leg and all, in perfect style. :(

Live music at O'Malleys with Danny. Herbert giving it full rock n roll on the Harp!

What joy!

Hi folks,,,have been looking green with envy at all these posts !

Any of the J2skiers going to be in Niederau week beginning 7th March ?

We will be staying at the Austria.

The other half and meself and the Grandson will be there.

9 Year old Grandson has his snowboard lessons all booked up ( dont panic ,,,knowing him he will last approx one morning when he sees boarders spend most of their time on the ground )!!

Theres hope yet as hes a good little skiier and I promise to do all in my power to convince him that skiing is the new "cool" )

Love to all..praying to the snow God to do his bit !

Love Ava xxxxxx
