Big Summer Snowfall in New Zealand

J2SkiNews posted Jan-2017

January in the southern hemisphere is the equivalent of July in the northern hemisphere and we're through to a month in to summer but that hasn't stopped some big snowfalls in New Zealand over the past 24 hours.

Although the ski season is 'normal' or 'extra snowy' in most parts of the northern hemisphere there are a few areas like Scotland and The Dolomites that would be grateful for the 20cm of snow at New Zealand's Cardrona ski area overnight (pictured above).

Cardrona was one of a number of New Zealand areas to report significant snowfall and cancelled normal summer mountain activities like mountain biking as a result of the conditions.

There have been large snowfalls in parts of the northern hemisphere that rarely see it too including in Algeria in North Africa, the Spanish Costas and the Sahara Desert.
