Heavy Snowfall In Western North America

J2SkiNews posted Oct-2016

Ski resorts in north western North America are currently receiving significant pre-season snowfall.

On Thursday/Friday the most excited predictions were for up to 40 inches/a metre of snow to land on Whistler by Monday.

That volume doesn't quite seem to be being reached but it looks like there'll be at least a foot and possibly 50-60cm on upper slopes.

The picture above by Coast Photo was posted by the resort yesterday along with a warning not to go skiing there until the resort officially opens in a month's time.

Other ski areas getting big snowfall include Jackson Hole in Wyoming, however so far there's no sign that any American resorts plan to open early.

Colorado to the south is seeing its annual battle to be the first area to open however, with Arapahoe Basin an Loveland leading contenders. The former has said it expects to open 'any day now' but temperatures have warmed up a little here limiting snowmaking operations. It's due to get colder again with possible natural snowfall from around the middle of the coming week. So next weekend looks the most promising.
