...from Airport Sniffer Dogs...

No, not an April Fool, but in news that will surprise exactly no-one - sniffer dogs at Manchester Airport are reported to have been detecting "cheese and sausages" rather than drugs. 8)

TravelMole wrote:The report by the Independent Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration said the sniffer dogs had failed to find any Class A drugs in a seven-month period and questioned the return on investment, with £1.25m spent on new kennels and operating the six-dog unit.

And it added that one of the sniffer dogs, which was trained to find animal products, had detected cheese and sausages wrongly brought back by holidaymakers.

The report said: "Heroin and cocaine were assessed as 'very high' priority within both air passengers and freight. Yet, according to the data provided by Border Force, the dogs had made no Class A drugs detections in the period November 2014 to June 2015.

"When deployed, the POAO dog made multiple accurate detections, but most were of small amounts of cheese or sausages, wrongly brought back by returning British holidaymakers and posing minimal risk to UK public health."

Always ensure you comply with regulations on the import of food from abroad and remember; the dogs know you have cheese, they will find it, and they will...

This is absolute bummer for a regular skier. My white, red and blue wax are in the clear. However, my cheese coloured wax is at risk.

As all J2skiers well know, cheese coloured wax covers the range of piste snow temperatures of plus 2 degrees to plus 7.5 degrees snow conditions.

I seek cheese coloured wax advice.

Nightmare! I will be extending my journey to avoid Manchester in future so I can get my consignments ion safely, so many of my cheese addicted friends rely on my regular top ups to their supplies. Thanks for the tip off!

It looks like the holidaymakers mentioned in the article were returning from destinations outside the EU.

"If you are travelling from a country outside the EU, you cannot bring any meat or dairy products into the UK unless you are travelling from the Faroe Islands, Greenland or Iceland, when you are allowed a combined weight of up to 10kg per person".

"If you are travelling from a country within the EU, you may bring in any meat, dairy or other animal products."

At the moment UK skiers can bring back as much Reblochon and saucisson as they want, but in the not too distant future other rules might apply.

I suggest packing your cheese in ground coffee. If it works for the naughty people, it should work for the cheese :)
