I have stayed in, and skied out of Megeve, several times.

How many J2skiers have?

I'd happily return there, because it's like lots of other Haute Savoie resorts in terms of facilities and pricing. It's possible to spend a lot, or very little.

Oh, and if you are feeling you want to save the cents, just like in Chamonix, there is a McDonalds.

You sound particularly patronising today, having a bad day

How you interpret what I post, is not my problem. I'm simply trying to combat the assumption and disinformation present on this thread, based on several weeks resident experience of the resort.

If you have a problem with what I post, you can always put in a complaint to Admin. Alternatively I can take the facts and knowledge away, if you'd prefer.

What you seem to forget is that I work on a budget, and what might seem reasonable in price for you is not for me so I use the guides to gain some information on resorts.
Perhaps you should reread your McDonalds comment.

Flippin eck guys, chill out.
To answer Bandits initial question, which I am sure she knows the answer to: NO I have not been to Megeve, but I know a number of people who have. They are particularly well to do people, I would call them posh actually, and they go to Megeve specifically as it meets their needs for expensive cuisine, fine accommodation, and that kind of lifestyle. Money is of no object to these people, and whilst I am sure it is possible to find cheaper accommodation and eating establishments around (MacDonalds is a LITTLE extreme perhaps), Megeve does most definitely offer more to the more "discerning clientelle".

As Ian says, some people (Bandit, I believe this was aimed at you by Ian) find things "affordable" and have a better lifestyle than others. Therefore, these people may well find somewhere like Megeve does not appear "expensive" to them, but rest assured, the people I know who go there do so especially because it offers them the levels of service and quality that they require. The same people have also visited Courcheval regularly as it happens, hardly a surprise to me.

In fact, when I was asked where I had skied and went through the list of places, the people I know actually said something along the lines of "We wouldn't want to associate ourselves with the kind of riff raff who go there...." so you get the idea of the kind of people I am talking about, right?

Also, from what reading and research I have done, I am capable of making my own informed idea of the place and the type of clientelle it attracts GENERALLY. This does not mean that more "regular" type of holiday makers don't go there, of course. I do however think that Bandit was suggesting that by not having been somewhere, you are not entitled to an opinion on what somewhere is like. I beg to differ, and learning from people who have been to places, reading up, doing online research etc gives a good enough impression of somewhere, certainly sufficient enough for me to decide if its somewhere that should feature on my "wishlist" or not.

Now, no one has accused anyone of anything apart from perhaps being a little touchy, so no harm done, eh?

Is it safe for me to come out now? :?

I thought Haute Savoie was a type of food
I wish I could meet the person who first decided to strap 2 planks to their feet and throw themselves down a mountain

Are you talking about me - that's where I'm going for Christmas & New Year?

(OK I confess, I'm not actually staying in Megeve itself, but nearby St.Gervais - but I will be skiing there & I didn't even make it onto the Times Rich List this year!!) .

The plan is.... there's no plan!

What have I started!
Seing as Bandit is the only one who has been in Megeve this is directed at her. Do you think it would be suitable for 6 blokes (late 30's) consisting of 1 very keen skiier(me) and 5 others of varing degrees of talent/interest who would also like a few beers and the option of a late night or two.
I have been quoted a much better half board deal for 4 days in Megeve than in Morzine which is why I need to make the decission before I get an earfull for bring my friends somewhere crap.
When in doubt?....Flat out.

Gareth Fair IMHO the skiing would be fine, but the nightlife might be a bit sleepy for your party. The resort has more in the way of family focused and gentle activities for apres ski.
