A quick report on TJ's races in Megeve.
He completed all 5 FIS races without any major mishaps. A very tough series of races with 8 World cup racers and another 10 Europa cup racers in the field.
The first Downhill went ok, just too slow on the flats, so he finished 3 seconds behind winner Yannick Bertrand in 29th place.
The 2nd Downhill was much better. He finished in 14th place overall only 2 seconds behind Bertrand and 1.5 secs behind Natco Zrmcic-Dim from Slovenia who won the World championship Bronze medal in Super Combined only 2 weeks previous. TJ scored his best ever Downhill FIS world ranking points which should put him back inside the top 20 in the World for his age.
He then did a very solid Slalom run to finish 16th overall in the Super Combined race only 1.8 secs behind Bertrand. He again scored his best FIS points in the SC which should put him in the top 30 in the world for his age.
The next 2 days were Super G races. Unfortunately he made mistakes in both races, but still managed to score his 2nd best ever FIS points in the first race. He finished in 32nd & 33rd places respectively. He will stay at No 21 in the World for his age in Super G.
He has just arrived in Garmisch ready for the Downhill training at the World Junior champs tomorrow. He is the only racer from GBR as no one else qualified. He should be racing in all 4 events.
He's hoping to do better than last year where he skied "like a girl". Sorry all you ladies out there. His words not mine!
I'll keep you all posted.

Someone is going to be happy!

TJ Baldwin, who is also sponsored by the Ski Club was seriously impressive, winning the National Junior downhill title for a second successive year and holding his own in the senior race, coming in 5th just behind Ed Drake.

Thanks for all the interest in TJ and the congrats.
He did have a very successful British Junior champs winning 4 out of the 5 titles up for grabs and coming 2nd in the other.
He won the Junior (U21) Downhill by 3.8 seconds (The first time he has actually won it - last year he won the U18 prize) He was also 1st International Junior.
He won the Junior Super G by 1.5 seconds and was also the 1st International Junior. This is the 3rd year running that he has won this title. No one has ever achieved that before.
He won the Junior Slalom by 2.6 seconds and was again the 1st International Junior.
He was 2nd in the Junior GS after falling on the first run 6 gates from the finish which put him too far behind to be able to catch up on the 2nd run.
The 3 wins plus the 2nd meant that he easily won the Junior Overall combined championship by 174 points.
As well as coming 5th in the Senior Downhill he also came 6th in the Senior GS and was again the top placed International Junior in both races.
I forgot to post how he got on at the World Juniors - He had a bit of an off week but with some encouraging bits.
The Downhill was going really well on the top section but he carried far too much speed into the steep technical part and could not make it round a gate.
The Super G was his best performance - He came 24th, which is the best ever placing by a GB male (38th being the previous best in 2000) It should have been a top 10 result but he took too much air over the last roller and had to put his skis sideways to make the 4th last gate and scrubbed off lots of speed. His coach said he lost about 1 second with that mistake. 1 second would have put him up to 7th - *****!
His FIS world ranking points from these races and others from earlier in the season mean that he is now ranked No1 British Junior (U21) in Downhill, Super G, Giant Slalom, Slalom & Super Combined - everything.
His world rankings for his Year of birth are - No 6 in Super G, No 21 in Super Combined, No 24 in Downhill, No 55 in GS & No 85 in Slalom.
Next season will be his last in the Junior age group. He should be racing all the Downhill & Super G Europa cup races.
He wants to make the GB qualification standard for the Olympics & get a top 5 place in the Super G at the World Juniors.
He now has another 7 days rest before heading off to Kaprun to start his summer training with an 8 day speed camp (Downhill & Super G) on the glacier. Then after that its strength & fitness for 3 months before more glacier training in Switzerland then hopefully off to Chile in Sept.
He's doing pretty good for a little ol Norfolk boy!
