I do hate the way people try to shuffle their skis in between yours in order to gain a couple of milimetres per step. Especially when they are your own skis and the annoying git behind you is putting their sharp edges across your tails. Its usually at that point that I lean back with my poles outstretched, and then apologise profusely for not having been aware they were so close behind me....

Buy a couple of those snowboard stomp pads that have metal studs. Cut into strips and stick on your skis. Learn the French for "please be careful, you'll damage your skis" to say while pointing down at your skis.

Agree with pole planting in front of tips!

But as they say "when in rome do as the romans do" to a certain extent anyway!

The worst queue hoping i've seen was in Bad Gastein when a group of little kids skied down and straight in by the electronic pass readers things! Needless to say as almost everyone in the queue was english masses of abuse was hurled and they ended up at the back!

In terms of american queues i first learnt in winter park and didn't que all week everyone was telling us to go through! They had specific ski school queues next to the main queue!

The thing that really annoys me is when someone gets to the front of the queue and then stops turns round and waits for their mates.
That and when you've been in a queue for 20mins only 3 people get on a 6 person chair. Arrrgghh!

Oh yes, thats annoying too. I actually pushed 2 French blokes onto a chair lift in front of me, as they got to the front, and then stood there and watched 3 charis go by and didnt move, waiting for their friends. A gentle push as the gate opened, a pole up their arses and a polite "do you ****ing mind?" seemed to do the trick. Followed by the traditional scooping up of a tip full of snow and covering them in it as the chair sped off )

When they have the brains of a budgie, a gentle push is the only option. :D

In St Anton a couple of years ago a group of young 8-10 year olds blatently started barging there way past me in the lift queue. Having put up with this behaviour all morning I decided enough was enough and tried to stop the next one by planting my poles at his ski tips. He moved back quite quickly, but to my suprise he preceded to try another route...through my legs! I couldn't believe it. I put on my scariest teachers voice and said 'no' so loudly that he got the message. So did his dad who was directly behind him and didn't seem to have a problem with his sons behaviour!
