In resort makes a lot of sense if:
1) you book beforehand, anyone not requiring this is likely not worth visiting.
2) you are willing to invest 2-3hrs on first evening.
3) you don't get attempted to get boots adjusted next day. Ski boots really loosen up after a few days skiing so inevitably they need to feel a bit tight for first few days otherwise you are left with a boot which is of no use.

I have an appointment to buy a new pair at Rivington Alpine on 3 Jan. When I called he said that it will be a good few hours, also i also liked that he said if they don't have the perfect boot in they won't try and get you in another just for the sake of it - they will order the right ones in.

On their website it says "you dont choose the boots, the boots choose you"

Yes, this route is expensive, but I think its worth it.

I bought Nordica Speedmachine 10 boots on-line after trying a pair in a resort and rwading good reviews and they have been super comfy without any customisation all this time.
Just saying -)
