Where is all the snow?

Just had a look at the cams in Val Thorens. Looks like there is cover down into the village there.....but then that is circa 2300m.

I think pre Christmas, I would only choose Val Thorens or Tignes.

Yes I realise that Ian but I wondered what I had to look forward to if the worst happens. Do they plan for this, can they plan for this? Has anyone had their destination changed by Crystal due to resort closure or been ferried elsewhere on a daily basis from Gastein?

It doesn't look as though they've postponed their opening date yet, so I would imagine the organizers still think there will be enough snow to open on Friday 12th December. And they have a whole program of events planned for that weekend:

You have to realise that the snow god does not turn the snow on the 1st of December, look I have turned up in
resorts to green slopes and limited skiing on ice, then big dump opens resort Happy Happy apart from your ski bases.
Then the first time we turned up to green slopes the tour operaator bused us to the nearest resort with snow in this case
10 mins down the road.

Sport Gastein is I think the highest point have you checked the snow conditions up there ?

Also remember weather being what it is the next valley may have wonderful snow !!!!

Next option where is the nearest Glacier skiing ?

Just a quick search of near by resorts you have ski amade, you will have to check what the snow is like .....

...and the forecast models are indicating a dip to below seasonal temperature averages for the first week of December...

Way too early to panic yet!

My first ski day was 30th November last year.......that ain't happening. :-(

A week here or there ~ it is nature. In 2007/8, the skiwelt opened in October.
Anyway, another week should see the start of it for the lower areas. Temps due to drop well into the minus zone.
