LOTA - Sölden was number 1 target but the reviews I've read about the chalet hotel Hermann have put us off. The tour op says its ski in ski out but clearly that's a lie!!!!
I don't mind buses, my mate refuses to use buses or drag lifts though!
But i don't want to go anywhere that involves morning queues to get out of the resort.

Big queues at the Giggijoch gondola each morning - no queues at all for the Gailaischkogl gondola. So stay on the bus, or get off earlier, depending which end of town you're coming from. Lots of hotels clustered around each of the main lift stations. The chalet Hermann is neither Arthur nor Martha - somewhere in the middle and close only to the nursery slope lifts, I think.

Despite its shortcomings, I very much enjoyed Solden and will be looking to return sometime soon.

Youre trying hard to sell this to me LOTA.

Hermann was supposed to be ski in ski out on the Giggijoch piste which youd ski down to the main gondola. But it turns out its a trek over fences, through gardens and crossing roads..... The opposite end of town from the much quieter Gailaischkogl lift unfortunately. Trust me, Ive done my homework ;-)

Not trying that hard! Just making sure you're apprised of the facts!

I think Solden is greatly overlooked; I had a great time there!

I am liking the fact its overlooked as well. And I dont mean by Obergurgl

Just done La Thuile....recommend it...quiet, 160 ish kms. can ski to France......as long as you don't have a host!!..well looked after, Italian prices, good apres...will go again.

La Thuile is on my division 2 list. I've read good things about it, but the best accommodation appears to be over in le rosiere with some really nice chalets, I'd prefer to be on the Italian side to be honest.

I'm also reading good things about les menuires in terms of access to the 3 valleys and costs for a French resort.
