Arabba and Dolomites 2013
Login
Well, after numerous Facebook photos of Arabba driving me insane with longing the temptation became too much..... so..... going back on the 16th March!!!! :D :D :D
The snow out in the Dolomites is amazing this year so was too good an opportunity to miss.
Also means I can try out some more all mountain skis and narrow down my shortlist. Decided against taking our own skis due to the high cost of carriage with the 'Irish Lot' – unfortunately our usual route with free carriage would be too expensive having booked so late.
Can anyone tell I'm just a "little" excited about this trip?
Your right Lynn that is not worth taking your own skis with the Irish lot,as I refuse to use them it makes no difference to me, but if I did I would possible hire skis in resort as well

Excellent review Lynn, thanks! I will be visiting the Dolomites for the first time for a few days towards the end of March.
I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on where to stay -- or ski tours to do -- if we're hoping to meet people?
My girlfriend and I are both 29 so we're out of the student scene but looking to stay somewhere with a bit of a social scene, so specific hotel, area, or ski group recommendations would be most welcome.
Thanks!

Take a look at my ramblings about Canazei in the 'Dolomiti Superski, where to stay?' thread. The 'Armentarola (Hidden Valley)' trip is a good one for socializing as it includes a lunch stop at 'Scotoni's' (ace food, even by Italian standards) and a bit of 'ski-boot bopping' in a hotel bar in Corvara before the coach picks you up. Top tip: if you've had a beer, make sure you and especially your girlfriend 'take a leak' before you get back on the coach. Otherwise it's an undignified 'point and squirt' or crouch behind a snowbank on top of the Passo Sella! -)
We skied with the SCGB rep when we were in Sauze d'Oulx. We payed a nominal fee and signed up as day members so as to meet the terms of their insurance. Well worth it! Don't know if SCGB has a rep in the Dolomites: check the web-site. Can't recommend a specific hotel; both of those that I have stayed in were friendly enough, but obviously the clientele can vary from one week to the next. I think if you are reasonably outgoing you will have no problem making ski- and apres-ski-buddies.
Hope you find some of this useful and have a good one.
