You can get them from The AA and Thomson shops also (don't know whether they're issued there and then though). However CaxtonFx consistently offer the best exchange rate.

My card, despite having CaxtonFx's logo on it, actually says it was issued by Newcastle Building Society and is covered by the FSA compensation scheme.

I use caxton the only issue I have had with it is it seems not to be accepted by some French tolls

Just checked we took out 500 euros from a cash machine last week in Morzine and got an exchange rate of 1.177 not bad. :D

That would be about standard tourist rate at the moment. The bank rate has been around 1.21 for the last couple of weeks. What card was that?
