Just go back from my week in Samoens.

Already having withdrawl symptoms so I'm starting to look at next year.

Does anyone have any experience of either of the above?

thanks

I've been to adh twice and would go back again definitely.
I read up a lot on l2a and it doesn't appeal to me for a number of reasons.
Adh has a great variety of slopes for all levels, and some cracking long runs out to the extremities.
I can give you advice on some of the runs if you want to pm me.

I've stayed in a chalet in the altiport which was fantastic for ski in ski out, and I've stayed in a chalet hotel in the old town near the bottom of the lobster pot lift. Both were excellent.

I'm sure you'll get others come along to explain the virtues of l2a but what puts me off is how long it takes to get up the mountain and stories of chaos on the run back to town

AdH: top drawer (from experience).

L2A: never been, but peeps who have seem to love it or hate it.

I quite fancy L2A for some top-notch off-piste instruction (Easiski). Otherwise,I think I would be more inclined to go back to AdH. L2A may be a better bet at the end of the season. Tends to hold on to its snow better as it doesn't have as many south facing runs.

I like both but you are right they are very different.

L2A is quite a big sprawling town with lots of shops and bars etc. but it is quite separate from the ski area which is accessed via gondolas except for the very lower slopes which are the nursery ones with buttons.

We just jumped on a gondola in the morning and spent all day up high and the skiing there is very good. There are also loads of places to stop for a coffe and a bite to eat.

The choice to get back to the village is what everyone who doesn't like L2A gripes about. You have the choice of 2 blacks or a green and personally I think the green is more dangerous. However on looking at the piste map this year I notice a new red route back, which I am sure wasn't there last time I went.

We just used to jump back in the gondola and not worry about it, after a days skiing I didn't need to break my neck on the black or my leg on the green just to say I could ski home! The apres in L2A is very good, lots of places to choose from and some very good restaurants. It also seems to be more reasonably priced than many other places.
I can see my house from here...

Felthorpe, do you think there enough at L2A for me and my group, in terms of not getting bored in a week?

Tony_H, what are you looking for reds/blacks? Plenty of red runs...
Up there for thinking, down there for skiing...

When do you want to go? Lda would be better very late in the season. There is a new red back to resort in lda but I understand it's a proper red. The green run back to town is hideous IMHO.
