Often people ask me to "help" them choose a ski !
Over the years I have made in my mind a "classification" which helps me target the possible skis for the skier!
I hope this helps some of you find your "identity" and then chose a ski !
The source of this "personalized" classification comes from Ski Press a once free ski publication.
Skier Types[u]
Race Carver
Speed is in your blood. You are first on the bottom of slope. You spend most of your time on carving fast perfect turns from top to bottom. You never stop mid slope. Precise, race-like turns is what makes your ski day perfect.
Mountain Technician
You ski with elegance and precision in all types of conditions and terrain. Most of your time is spent on groomed slopes, but you do adventure hors piste at will. You ski with the soul of a carve, yet can adjust your style depending on the conditions and your mood. If you are not an instructor, you ski like one !
All Mountain Freeskier
You look at a mountain and want to conquer it all! You have a cam glued to your helmet. You want others to see you take that chute. You spend little time on groomed slopes, just "warm ups" for you. You want that virgin snow, that virgin slope that forbidden valley! You push the limits for that adrenaline rush!
Weekend Warrior
You are a good athlete who likes to ski as much as possible! You flow in easy terrain and intermediate groomed slopes, but your technique is weak in steeper, expert level runs. You want to carve turns, but pick up too much speed. "Someday", you say to yourself !
[i]Pleasure Holiday Skier[b]
Skiing is an easy, relaxed activity with friends and family. You are laid back skier who stays on easy wide runs and once they get "used up", time for the bar. You love the easy cruising/turning ski.
Neophyte
You want to ski down that easy run once without falling!

Where do I fit in then ?
I love to ski very fast, love the adrenalin rush that comes with it, always first to the bottom but not with exquisite style ( I don't pretty ski) once down I feel exhilirated. must state that am always in control at any speed ( unless on ice then I crap myself at speed)
Also will try any off piste but not quite conquered that style yet but love the challenge.
last one, dont find moguls any fun whatsoever and cant understand why people do.
What am I?

tonypants,
You are a skier suffering a "multiple personality" affective disorder ! You have too many divergent skiing "tendencies" and are looking for the dominate one!
May I suggest the following "therapy" ;
-take 2 months off regular work ( since it may be the cause of this problem) !
-go to another country where you are not known such as Chile, New Zealand or even Australia
-work on your "identity tendencies" in various contexts,,, until one become dominate
-finally work on establishing this identity as your "central" ski identity by skiing non-stop for 2 weeks
I am sure you can find a Sports Psychologist which can provide a "medical leave" since if you do not do this soon,,,,,you will fall into the "Multiple-Schizophrenic Personality type " That you do not want to do !
Respectfully,
Pavel
