Heads up! Wrap up!
Temperatures in The Alps are set to take a bit of a dive as this week progresses, to the extent that extra care will be needed.
Most of the region is currently cooler than average for this time of year (which is not exactly warm in any case!), but much of the Austrian, French, Italian and Swiss Alps are likely to get significantly colder by the end of the week.
Temperatures are forecast to fall by at least 10C from now through to Friday; with daytime highs around -20C (or lower) possible on Friday and Saturday.
All usual advice for (very) cold weather applies :-
- Layer Up (base layers, glove inners, hoods, etc.)
- Minimise exposed skin (risk of frostbite)
- Take regular breaks
- Stay properly hydrated (alcohol doesn't help!)
- Choose gondolas rather than chair-lifts! 8)
Enjoy the amazing snow, but stay safe.

When we skied Banff when it was minus 32 degrees, we were told to check noses for frostbite, so when you get off the lifts or come to the bottom of a run, just press your fellow skiers nose and if it stays white, it is time to get warmed up! Those 'Hannibal Lechter' type face masks were worn a lot. Don't get frostbite, easier said than done!
Rather a bad day on the slopes than a good day in the office!
