I don't know about public transport, but when we went a couple of years back, our friends hired a car. They were 2 adults and a child. The advantage of having a car, if you are self-catering, is that you can stock up on food in the hypermarket in the valley, before you get to the ski town. Much cheaper. We got a taxi from the train station in Chambery which cost 30 Euros.

(sorry it might have been Cluses, not Chambery - I can't remember)

Also, check out the website for Altibus www.altibus.com

Thanks Allie but as we are only going for 5 days i think the best car cost is about 250 eauro plus petrol plus the added worry that if you get involved in an accident or damage the car there is normally a hefty excess !! Just looking to get a shuttle from the airport to the centre of les carroz and back again...being quoted about 80 euros return each which seems pretty extortionate and wondered if there were any cheaper deals out there from any not se well known but equally reliable transfer companies :)

I'm no expert, but I don't think 80 euros return per person sounds too bad? Geneva is easily an hour away from Les Carroz. I had a look at the Altibus website and they are quoting 80 euros return per adult. Maybe you already looked there. Good luck anyway.

Hi Allie, I have now managed to get it down to 66 euros each way so there are deals to be had but someone told me that they had heard of someone who had got the return for 40 euros but couldnt remember who or where from !!

Thanks for your reply but my search for the cheapest deal continues lol

The cheapest I have ever managed was about $65, its roughly between $60 – 90 depending on resort etc. But beware if you go with a cheaper one then they do tend to be unorganised. The last one I had left us standing at the airport for about an hour waiting for another flight to come in and on the way back we had to get a taxi to a bus stop in the middle of know where and stood for about 30 mins waiting for the bus.
Wishes Essex had a mountain range Im all about the CamRock

The prices you've found are the going rate.

Your choices are the public bus (Altibus) but they will drop you off in the centre of town, not at your accommodation. That is likely to be your cheapest bet.

Alternatively there are quite a few private transfer companies. It's cheaper to opt for a shared transfer but you may have to wait for up to an hour at the airport, rather than a private transfer. Last year when I searched for Flaine transfers, GO Massif were cheapest and were reliable.
Alp -line are also very reliable, but were a little more last time.
Advantage of the private route (over the public bus) is that you get dropped off at and picked up from your accommodation, and aren't reliant on waiting for 'timetables'.
