we have a vacation scheduled in Serre Chevalier starting next weekend ( the 29th of Jan) and are coming from the US. I have been reading there is no snow in the forecast up to the 1st of Feb ( that as much of a forecast as I can get). It doesn't look like it is going to be good conditions to come all the way from the US !!Anyone know about the conditions there and the long range snow forecast for Feb.
Thanks,

Welcome to j2ski Velobb, I am not sure of the long term snow however, they are reporting 190cms at 2800m, 135cms at 2100m and 35cms at village level circa 1400m. The snow record is impressive and the temp was -10 Today. The webcams indicate good snow. I am off too Serre Chevalier in March and have booked this because of the previous reports of good snow at that time. Have a look at their website:-

Hope this helps

I was wondering that Tony, its been at the top of the table, as far as snow is concerned this year. I will be glad if there is that amount in the 1st week of March. :D
Nice to have you back and trust you had a great time?

I am writing my report tonight. But I have one word to describe the skiing at St Moritz - stunning.

Excellent sounds the business and look forward to your report. I suspect this means we have lost you to the Swiss

Hardly. I have now ski'd in France, Austria, Italy and Switzerland and have enjoyed aspects of them all.
The only place I would prefer not to ski is France, but I love Serre Che so much I will ski there again.
I enjoyed ADH immensely, but did not enjoy Val Thorens particularly, and do not find many of the French resorts high up my wish list.
Italy is different in many ways, and the Dolomites are a definite must for next season.
Austria I love because of the resorts I have been to, the scenery is proper alpine and the atmopsphere much more relaxed, and prices lower, and I'm going back next month.
Switzerland just seemed so much more dynamic though. Everything - the scenery, the airport even, the style, the piste bashing, the lifts.....everything. Mind you, I have only ski'd Verbier and St Moritz!
No, I have no real preference other than France being at the bottom of the pile.
Anyway, wibble.
Over and out.

Hi, Glad to hear that Serre is good. We did see that they were at the top of the snow list but the fuss is that is hasn't snowed since Jan 11th, they did have a warming trend and some rain and there is no snow in the the forecast for the next 12 days so we did't want to come over all the way from the US for not great snow.
But we are going to try it out. Glad to hear you like it and thanks of the info.
